The Matterhorn is for sure Switzerland's most iconic mountain. Over 4'400m high it is one of the highest summits of the Alps and the near-symmetrical pyramidal peak make it a truly unique sight.
There are many small lakes up in the mountains around the town of Zermatt and the Matterhorn is omnipresent when hiking in the region.
We only had two nights in Zermatt and camped one night up at Stellisee at 2'500m and the next one at Riffelsee at 2'700m aiming to photograph the Matterhorn at sunrise. I cannot think of a more beautiful scenery to wake up to!
